The major subject of this research project is the garden square, the small green space in Anglo-Saxon urban residential areas, aiming to reveal relationship among owners, maintainers, and users. I focused on the collapse of the customary relationship, and examined examples of 19th century United States, especially ones in Baltimore city. I also dealt with ones of London after the 19^<th> century and extracted new questions for comparative studies.
